Jesus, a model queer activist and community advocate, is on the brink of self-destruction. He’s cheated on his long-time FTM partner Johnny and has had unprotected sex. After testing positive for HIV, Jesus parties recklessly and nearly overdoses on drugs. But Sister of Perpetual Indulgence Alysa Trailer helps him face his fears of the unknown and begin the journey of self-discovery. Using improvisation and vÉritÉ techniques, HEART BREAKS OPEN portrays the contemporary experience of receiving an HIV-positive diagnosis and finding the will to live. Many faces and places may be familiar in this Seattle-based production.
