While surveys have shown that over 100,000 Italian children have at least one gay parent, the government still neither recognizes same-sex marriage nor allows gay and lesbian couples to adopt. In this intimate documentary, told from the perspectives of both the children and parents, a lesbian couple and their three children travel to the United States to get married, then return home to celebrate their 17-year relationship with family and friends. Meanwhile, two gay men fly to Toronto to meet with surrogates, trying to become fathers the only way they can. Powerful and poignant, these stories convey how love strengthens these “invisible” families.
